This work examines the emigration trend as regards the case of Nigeria and how it has created a new Nigerian dream - to leave. This new way of thinking has since become a development trap of its own, as Nigeria keeps getting drained of skilled and functional people, who would otherwise aid nation building. This paper argues that such factors such as, social dysfunctionality, economic instability and political crisis, constitute the principal causes of emigration in Nigeria. The findings in this paper shows that Nigeria will continue to experience high surge in emigration for the coming years if these problematic factors are not addressed. The paper adopts the critical and analytic methods of research.
