Abstract

Friendship is a word in common usage. Its value is cherished and pursued by many, who see it as an inevitable aspect of social existence. Fellowship of friends breed joy and happiness, making people to quest for friends. However, in spite of the desirability of friendship and the obvious familiarity of people with the concept, the questions surrendering the word are varied without conclusive answers. This paper will concentrate on St. Thomas Aquinas unique understanding of friendship and draw inspiration from it for the benefit of the seminary. This work makes use of textual and contextual exposition, analysis and evaluation to arrive at the conclusion that Aquinas ideas on friendship would promote the ideals of the seminary and by extension create godliness and peace in the world. The significance of this paper lies in its contribution in the search for ways of ameliorating the numerous chaos and anarchy that abound in our social today.
